IMAGEAssemblies
This interactive program offers a high-energy performance (one that is equally entertaining and educational) through an old-school assembly. The 50 minute-program features 35 minutes of stories, a Q&A session, audience participation, and detailed information about the instruments, stories, and language.
Percussive Storytelling touches on numerous National Standards of Learning, specifically elements in Language Arts and Music Composition/Improvisation. Working hand in hand with teachers, a Performance Study Guide is available before the assembly. This study guide contains information about the program, pre and post performance activities, a review of national standards, suggested stories, links to videos, and more.
A school program is designed for larger audiences, and is also a great option for children’s festivals, museum events, holiday festivals, and other venues with a large audience.
Workshops
Given dozens of times throughout the country and abroad, this popular and intensive workshop puts the pen in the hand of the best writers out there — kids! Over the course of a day or more, students craft original stories, set them to music, and perform the stories for either a larger audience or just for fellow classmates.
Workshops hit upon a number of national standards of learning, not to mention correspond directly to cognitive research showing the positive effects of a multidisciplinary approach to speech and language development. This approach provides longer-term learning, comprehension, and educational impact for kids, all while being fun, engaging, and interactive.
Workshops are designed for smaller groups, and are great for individual classrooms or grades, ESL programs, speech/language therapy settings, and more. Each workshop is completely customizable to fit specific needs.

What better way to make the librarian say “Shh” than to play drums — in a library?! This interactive program features 35 minutes of percussive stories, a question/answer session, information about instruments, audience participation, and a percussion petting zoo. The petting zoo allows children to experience the instruments they hear, make some noise, get some wiggles out, make some noise, compose a song, and make some more noise!
Percussive Storytelling is an ideal choice for summer reading programs, whether the national Collaborative Summer Library Program or iREAD. In fact, Percussive Storytelling has been featured at over 100 different libraries throughout the United States. In addition, this program is a great choice for Family Reading Night at the library as the program is designed to be educational and entertaining not just for children, but also for parents and other adults as well.
A library program is typically designed for smaller audiences, and is also a great option for community centers, theatre groups, preschool classrooms, playgroups, Boys and Girls Clubs, after-school programs, and more!

Believe it or not, even adults like to hit drums! The purpose of this popular workshop is to present the ins and outs of Percussive Storytelling to educators, who can then bring Percussive Storytelling back into classrooms. Specifically, educators will get to actively participate in the creation of a story, immediately set it to music, and receive information about how to implement Percussive Storytelling into the classroom.
Educational studies like Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences point to the power of interdisciplinary learning. A Percussive Storytelling Teacher Workshop explores this concept by tapping into the different learning mechanisms children have. Instead of reading stories word by word, page by page, we explore how to make the stories come alive by adding artistic elements such as music and movement and as a result, be more impactful for more students.
